Custom Ground Bar Work ID Problem

#1 Custom Ground Bar Work ID Problem

I was wanting to create a custom ground bar (one that is smaller than the provided one).  I opened the provided ground bar, and saved as a new name.  When I insert that new ground bar symbol, the Work ID shows the project name (not 'Gx' as expected).  I didn't make any modifications to the symbol other than saving as another name.

Other custom symbols I have created don't appear to have this issue.  Is there something specific about the ground bar I'm missing?

Good catch

Thanks for posting on the forum.

For some reason, the ground bar symbol is associated to the wrong class. We'll make a note to fix that.

For now, here's what you need to do:

  1. Open your new symbol using Open Block
  2. Expand the properties and change the Work Object Class property to Ground Bar (instead of Ground).
  3. Save the symbol

That should fix it for any new custom ground bar symbols you insert.

Please let us know if this helps.

That fixed it.  Thanks for

That fixed it.  Thanks for the quick response.

To add on to this question, is there an option to show a ground bar like a terminal strip?  I'd like to insert a ground bar on a wiring diagram that shows the connected devices just like the terminal strip does.  This sounds similar to the way distribution terminals are displayed, but was wondering if there was the equivalent for a ground bar.

Great. You're welcome.

To add on to this question, is there an option to show a ground bar like a terminal strip?
Hmmm...good question. Please give us some time to see if we can come up with something.

This is the best we could come up with

This is the best we could come up with, using the same method your other wiring diagrams use.

The terminal strip layout is specific to terminal strips.

Can you explain how you added

Can you explain how you added the terminal number to the ground bar block (elementary diagram version)?  I don't see the terminal number in the SkyCAD version.  I tried adding the terminal number to my custom block, but it tells me '#ERROR: No Such Query".

In my terminal number text object, I have:

Class Name = '<r:Class.Name>'

Value = '<r:Parent.TerminalNumber>'

If I try to create a block from the ground bar catalog item, the block symbol has the generic terminal symbol that I can't replace with a ground symbol.

Or is there a better way to create these?

Please let us know if this helps.

Can you explain how you added the terminal number to the ground bar block (elementary diagram version)?
Sure:

  1. Go to the Drawing tab and select Show/Hide connection points
  2. Select the connection point
  3. Go to the Drawing tab and select Show component property
  4. Choose the Name cell and click OK
  5. Select the modified ground bar symbol, go to the Home tab and Save

If I try to create a block from the ground bar catalog item, the block symbol has the generic terminal symbol that I can't replace with a ground symbol.
If you're referring to the ground bar wiring diagram symbol shown in the screenshot, I created that using the same method as the other wiring diagram symbols I helped you with; i.e.

  1. Open a ground bar symbol using Open Block
  2. Delete the drawing objects and connection points
  3. Use the drawing tools to draw the symbol (or insert an image)
  4. Add the queries mentioned before:
    <r:Parent.GetWorkObject.GetConnectionPorts(Where:Name=___).GetConnectedThroughWires.DisplayedLabel(ExtendedLabel:True)>

Please let us know if this helps.

Re: adding terminal number to

Re: adding terminal number to the ground bar block

This doesn't seem to be working.  I open my ground bar block, select the connection point, show component property and I get the pop-up window.  I select 'Name", click OK and nothing happens.  I don't see any additional attribute text, or anything else in the block.  If I look at other blocks, the connection point shows a text attribute associated with it.  My ground bar block doesn't show that. I do have 'Show/Hide connection points' on and 'Show empty attribute names' on.

Re: creating block from ground bar catalog

I was trying alternative ways to make the elementary diagram version.  When I create a block from the block generator, the connection point has the terminal name with it, but I can't change the graphic associated with the connection point.  In this particular case, it shows up as the generic terminal symbol.

The wiring diagram method is working perfectly, not having any issues with that.

Sorry for not being clear

I open my ground bar block, select the connection point, show component property and I get the pop-up window.
Ah, indeed, that won't work. Sorry for not being clear in our instructions.  Insert the symbol onto a sheet in a project, then follow the steps described in comment #7.

When I create a block from the block generator, the connection point has the terminal name with it, but I can't change the graphic associated with the connection point.
Ah, yes, that's more tricky. Since you are happy with your wiring diagram, do you still want to do this?

That Worked!

That worked!

As for changing the graphic associated with the connection point, I don't think I need that anymore.  All of this was to get the elementary symbol to work, and your instruction above got me there.

Thanks!

Great!

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about that.
