#1 Cannot open the program

Loaded most recent update and now cannot open the program; shrotcut icons changed appearance and not longer function.

Ok.

Thanks for uploading your environment.

We were able to succesfully open SkyCAD using your environment.  So we assume you experienced an installation glitch (the fact shortcut icons changed is an indication of that...)  We suggest you try to run install once more, and see where this leads you.  Chances are all will fall into place.

If not, we'll dig deeper.

Let us know how this works out.

No change.

Followed the link provided in your response; selected "Download"; program appeared to download; opened download; clicked "Agree" on the terms screen; screen changed to a big 0 (ZERO); held for about a second then closed and disappeared. No change in icons; still cannot open the program.

Ok!

Thanks for getting back to us about this.  The descrition you give confirms it is an installation issue.

Since you have a back-up of your environment, could you try to proceed with a full unsinstall of SkyCAD (including settings file and catalogue), and try to install it again?   Assuming this will work, we'll guide you afterwards in restoring your backed-up environment.

Please let us know if it works out.

Success

Did a complete uninstall, then tried to re-download. Wouldn't download.

Confirmed all SkyCAD files deleted from OS C then rebooted. Downloaded successfully and went through the quick environment setup.

Anything else I need to do?

Great! Next, replace the default environment with your one

Strange that it wouldn't download until you rebooted...glad it worked eventually though.

The next thing to do would be to use your backed up environment instead of the default out-of-the-box environment that came with the fresh installation. To do this:

  1. Close SkyCAD if you have it open
  2. Delete the Standard Environment folder located at "C:\SkyCAD Environments\Standard Environment"
  3. Replace it with your backed up Standard Environment folder (copy instead of move so that you don't jeopardise your backup)
Note: there must be no zipped files/folders
Note2: after these steps, for clarification, your folder structure and names should look like this:
  4. Open SkyCAD. You should now be using your environment with your projects, components, symbols, etc.

Please let us know if this helps.
