#1 Accesories to PLC

Resume from email conversation

Jonathan:

Is possible to add an accessory (let's say a CAT6 cable) to a PLC and then save the PLC in catalogue so every time I select that PLC the accessory appear in the BOM?
I tried already but it seems that the PLC doesn't storage the accessory.

Jeff:

Yes, it's possible to add an accessory to a PLC and save the PLC to catalogue so that in future, whenever that PLC is added to a project the accessory is already included.

Cables are not technically defined as accessories in SkyCAD terms though, but since it sounds like you only want that cable to appear in the BOM and not in the schematics, that shouldn't be a problem.

You can simply add an accessory to the PLC, and consider it as your cable.

I tried already but it seems that the PLC doesn't storage the accessory.

We tried it with the same version you are using and it seems to work for us, but perhaps we're doing something slightly differently to you.

This tutorial at 2:09 shows an example of how this is done.

Please try that and let us know how it goes.

Jonathan:

I followed the same steps from the video and still the same issue, when I add a new PLC it appears without the accessory.

Jeff:

Please upload a zip of your Standard Environment folder to the forum so I can take a look.

This tutorial about backing up your environment folder will indicate exactly which folder we are talking about.

(Note: only you and the SkyCAD staff will have access to your environment. All other users won't even be able to see the file.).

Please also let me know:

  • which project to look at
  • the part number of the PLC you are using
  • the part number of the accessory you are trying to add to the PLC
